MEIJER GARDENS--CHRISTMAS AND HOLIDAY TRADITIONS AROUND THE WORLD

Yesterday we went with our North Carolina family, who are home for Christmas, to see the Christmas trees from around the world at Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  They were truly incredible.  There are forty one countries represented with trees or exhibits.  The featured tree changes every year and this year it was Poland.  So we will start with the Polish tree for our niece in Washington D.C.

Please double-click on each picture to make it full-screen size so you can see the detail.

Polish Nativity.

I loved the legend that goes along with the Ukrainian tree.  A poor family could not afford to decorate their tree.  In the night, a spider comes and spins a beautiful web over the tree.

One of my favorite trees was the Native American tree.  It was decorated with Kachinas, dream catchers, canoes, trade beads and animals.  The tribes from North to South and East to West were honored.
