PURE MICHIGAN---PENTWATER

All along the West coast of Michigan are charming villages and towns. About an hour north of Grand Haven is Pentwater, MI. Pentwater is a lovely village surrounded by Bass Lake, Pentwater Lake, Pentwater River and Lake Michigan. There is something for everyone in the fun shops that line the main street which runs parallel to the Pentwater River. Pentwater is a great place to spend a day or a whole vacation.

Just north of Pentwater is Bortell's Fishery, a favorite place of our family to get incredible fried Lake Perch or Walleye

Bortell's is only open in the summer until Labor Day.  The sixth generation of the Bortell family now runs the fishery.

Coming on the blog soon will be a Smoked Salmon Spread made with smoked fish from Bortell's.

Bortell's also sells very fresh fish.

With fish dinners packed in white bags, turn left out of Bortell's driveway and then turn right at the second driveway on the right.  You will find yourself at the nicest park right on Lake Michigan.  We just loved sitting in the shade, eating our wonderful crispy fried perch with just the lightest coating of, maybe, rice flour while watching the waves roll onto the beach.

A view doesn't get much better than this one.

Lake Perch dinner.

MY FAVORITE STORE IN PENTWATER--THE BITCHEN KITCHEN!!  The man sleeping under the flag, his wife is having so much fun inside that she has forgotten all about him.

If the Bitchen Kitchen doesn't have what you need for the kitchen, you don't need it.  They have everything you can possible imagine.

The store just seems to go on and on,

And on and on.  Personalized service is their motto and there is always someone to help you find what you want.

Bitchen Kitchen can be found at http://www.thebitchenkitchen.com/ as well as in Pentwater.

TOM'S FAVORITE STORE IN PENTWATER:  THE HOUSE OF FLAVORS.

Eskimo kisses hot fudge sundaes.  They are both Tom's as I wouldn't eat all that sugar.  HA!

You get a Pig Pin if you can eat a whole Pig.

Side streets lead to the river.  Condos blend with the original city's architecture and are lovely.  Unlike Grand Haven, where all they cared about was expanding the city's tax base and had no care for aesthetics.

City park on the main street.

With a channel going out to Lake Michigan, Pentwater is a perfect place to keep a boat.  The marina is right at the base of the main street of town.
