FROM FAT TUESDAY TO ASH WEDNESDAY TO FISH FRY FRIDAYS.

Fish Fry Fridays are a traditions in Michigan during Lent.  Churches and fraternal organizations hold fish fries to make money for their year round projects.

Tom loved anything crispy, and especially fried fish.  So Izzy and I are going to have to go to a fish fry in remembrance of Tom.  If you have a favorite place to go on Fridays, hit the comment "button" at the bottom of this post and let us know the best place to go.  Look forward to hearing from you.

SANDY'S DONUTS ON THE POLISH-SIDE OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN CELEBRATES FAT TUESDAY.

On Grand Rapids' Westside at 2040 Leonard St. NW is Sandy's Donuts, the place to get your Paczki on Fat Tuesday.  The Westside has traditionally been the Polish area of Grand Rapids.

The bakery makes between 18,000 to 19,000 Paczki for Fat Tuesday.  Their every day donuts are fantastic too.

Sandy's Donuts offer the traditional prune filling as well as raspberry, apple, lemon, custard and Holland Cream.  The Poles like the traditional prune and Sandy's used 900 pounds of prunes this year to make their prune filling.  The white boxes are stacked and ready to be filled.

Boxes of pre-ordered Paczki waiting on the rack in the back.  I was there after noon and there were still lines of people waiting to get their Paczki fix.  Sandy's opened at 4am to accommodate the crowds lined up to get their Paczkis.

Last year Fat Tuesday was on March 8th.  This year it is earlier and is on February 21st.

Check out this link for last year's Fat Tuesday.  Marge's Donut Den not only has some of the best paczkis, they also have entertainment.  A great place to get ready for the fasting coming the next day on Ash Wednesday.
