ST NICHOLAS DAY IS ONE MONTH FROM TODAY

Enormous wooden shoes, this is the size I would like to have for St. Nicholas to fill with candy for me!

The Dutch Village sells wooden shoes in all sizes and in many different designs.

St. Nicholas Day is December 6th.  In the evening on December 5th, it is time to put your shoes out with hay and carrots for St. Nicholas' white horse.  St. Nicholas is know as Sinterklaas in the Netherlands.  At the Dutch Village in Holland, Michigan, there is a lovely little book called A DUTCH CHRISTMAS "The Legend of Sinterklaas" which would be a wonderful stocking stuffer for anyone with Dutch roots.

In the book, you will find out why we put out stockings for Sinterklaas.  There are also recipes for traditional St, Nicholas Day foods plus music and words to "Here Comes Saint Nicholas."

Here is a sample from the book.  "There are many more legends that recall the miraculous adventures of St. Nicholas but their details are obscure and basically unimportant when one considers the greater good of their mutual messages and prevalent theme:  "it is in giving that we receive."

Here is the web address of the village:
